Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), the only oil refinery in Ghana has began refining crude oil after shutting down operations for almost eight months.
Officials of TOR on Wednesday 3rd January at 9am took delivery of about 1 million ton of petroleum products for processing.
The products of about a million ton belonging to the Bulk Oil Storage Transport (BOST) and was sold to a third party has been renegotiated to TOR to be refined.
The refinery plant was in somewhere June 2016 shutdown for some maintenance works. The refinery plant was switched On 31st December, 2017, and begun refining operations on January 3, 2018 after long shutdown.
This means that TOR which was producing at about 20% of its capacity, will now switched to its full capacity
Public Affairs Manager at Tema Oil Refinary, Dr. Antwi Boasiako, said the development is good start for the refinery.
Casual workers who were laid off were excited when received the news and was optimistic that their job lost will be restored.
The workers however, hailed president Akufo-Addo for having faith in them to bring back the refinery plant into operation.
