Omanhene of the Ogua Traditional Council, Osabarima Kwesi Atta and the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Kwamena Duncan have in separate interviews condemned a crusade by some Fantes in Cape Coast to get some Twi speaking Presenters off radio in the disguise of By-force-twi-speakers.
The crusade which was started by some ousted Cape Coast Presenters on social media, lamenting on why Twi Presenters should take over Cape Coast radio stations but later finetuned to by-force-twi-speakers was brought to light when the Communication’s Director for NDC, Kakra Essamuah threatened to discontinue a radio interview on Okokroko FM if the host, Osahene Kwame Dapaah continued to speak Twi instead of Fante. This resulted in exchanges on live radio making the host unable to continue the show again.
Reacting to this development, Omanhene of the Ogua Traditional Council , Osaberima Kwesi Atta on Darling FM stated emphatically that there is no difference between Fante and Twi speakers,
” the most important thing is to understand what one is communicating and not whether it is Fante or Twi, would you speak Hausa or Dagbaani when you also travel to Tamale??” he asked. He advised natives not to allow language become a barrier because when Fantes start such a crusade others wil also rise and may lead to the unexpected.
He however advised Fantes to learn the language well to avoid unnecessary cold switching.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Kwamena Duncan on Okokroko Fm also pleaded with the host , Osahene Kwamena Dapaah to put such occurrences behind him and seek to the welfare of Oguaman.
He promised to deal with such crusade going forward.
