Some Structures at the Kaiser Flats in Tema Community Four in of the Greater Accra Region, has been declared a disaster prone and a danger zone by the National Disaster Management Organization NADMO.
According to NADMO, the structures are not safe for human habitation thereby authorities should take steps to pull them down for the purpose of safety.
The disaster management organisation advised that occupants in the 45 years dilapidated flats to immediately be vacate to prevent looming disaster.
Mr. Archibold Cobbina, the Greater Regional Director of NADMO made the declaration when he toured the area last Tuesday together with other officials from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and other stakeholders to assess the stage of the Kaiser Flats.
He said, “most of the structure at the Kaiser Flats are disaster in waiting thereby there is the need for them to move in to avoid disaster”. He said.
It is believed that at least thirty-three occupants would be affected when the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) enforce a court order issued by the Tema High Court after occupants sued TDC forceful ejection.
The eviction order is affecting persons occupying block 407, 408, 410 and 415 when the order is enforce.
Mr. Archibold Cobbina, the regional director of NADMO has therefore instructed management of Tema Development Company as their objective aimed at preventing disaster, to evict the occupants by Thursday February 1st 2018.
