C/R: HEALTH: BASIC SCHOOL GIRLS ENJOYS FREE HEPATITIS ‘B’ SCREENING AND ADOLESCENT SEXUAL HEALTH SENSITIZATION.

Gurls and Slips Initiative in Collaboration of Youth Alert Network on friday, 1st June,2018 embarked on Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health Sensitization and Hepatitis B screening  at Imam khomeini Islamic JHS within the Amamoma Community in Cape Coast.

The founder of Gurls and Slips, Miss. Amanda Baffour Awuah, educated the school girls the need for them to set goals for theirselves as girls  and ways to achieve their goals in life to stand out as a prominent women in future.

“As a young girl, you must set goals for yourself, being short or long term and you must sit up and work towards your goals in other to become who you want to be in future as a woman”…. She said.

The founder of Youth Alert Network, Miss Faustina Kyei-Baffour also took the girls through Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health.
The girls were given Sanitary pads each and educated on how best to maintain their personal hygiene during Menstruation.

She went further to educate the girls on Teenage Pregnancy and Unsafe Abortion.

“The moment you start menstruating, know that when you have unprotected sex,you can become pregnant at any point in time and that will interfere with the goals that you have set for yourself”…she added.

“There are so many complications associated with unsafe abortion, do not allow yourself into this situation, rather avoid unprotected sex to avoid teenage pregnancy since the teenage pregnancy leads most of you girls to practice unsafe abortion because you aren’t ready to be teenage mothers”… She further warned the girls.

School Girls who participated expressed their joy for the knowledge they have acquired from the program.

“Am glad to be part of today’s program, i have learnt that when i set goals for myself and work towards it and also avoid teenage pregnancy,i can become a great woman in future”…a student said.

“I have also learnt that, we shouldn’t wear one sanitary pad throughout the day during Menstruation, we must change it and bath at least twice a day to make us clean and avoid infections”…..another student added.

Hepatitis B Screening was offered at the end of the program for about 100 girls, all tested negative and were encouraged  to visit the nearest health centre for Hepatitis B Vaccine for protection.

Miss Amanda Baffour Awuah again expressed her gratitude to the school Authorities and parents for allowing their children to participate in the sensitization program.
