Miss Faustina Kyei-Baffour, a Psychiatric Nurse, founder of Youth Alert Network and a Radio Broadcaster, known in her media career as Abena Tina has entreated school children to stay away from drugs such as tramadol,’wee’,alcohol and other illicit drugs that are detrimental to their mental health.
She made this known at a Mentorship program for some Basic schools within the Mfantsiman Municipality on 13th March,2018, organised by the Central Regional Gender Department under the leadership of Mrs. Thywill Eyra Kpe.
She went further to educate the pupils on how these drugs can go a long way to affect their mental health and disrupt their studies.
“You need a healthy mind to study and achieve your dreams in future,if the mind is affected as a result of drug abuse, the ability of the mind to function properly becomes altered and your studies will be affected as well”….she said.
“For you to achieve your dreams of becoming a prominent person in future, then you must get high on life, not on drugs, because, engaging in drug abuse has nothing good to offer you than to shatter your dreams of becoming a Nurse, Journalist,Teacher,Soldier and so on”
……. she added.
Nsafo Methodist Basic School, Amissakrom-Ekroful Catholic School and Sacred Heart Catholic School at Yamoransa, all within the Mfantseman Municipality were the first batch of schools to benefit from the mentorship program.
Youth Alert Network is a health volunteer group that seeks to promote the mental health of young people as well as Adolescent Sexual and reproductive Health (ASRH).
