Tension at Moree as some youths stop chiefs from winning sand.
What could have been described as bloody clash was prevented by the police at Moree in the Central Region as some youths in the town stopped trucks that were earmarked to carry mined sand to Accra were stopped by a group of irate youths at Moree.
According to the youths, 15 trucks were sent to the town to carry sand to be transported to Kumasi and Accra to construct a beach stadium.
This according to the youth, was very insulting as they had been prevented from winning sand to even renovate their palace and homes. They wondered why then would they allow trucks to win sand from their shores to be taken away.
They continued that, the sea had severely destroyed houses close to the sea, and that any further attempt to win sand would render lots of people homeless.
They have therefore resulted to burning any trucks or fighting anyone who ventures to win sand in the community.
The youths pointed a finger at the Omanhene of the area, Okatakyie Amanfie and Debiahene of Asebu traditional area Nana Apreko I for collecting money and leading the crusade to wind sand in the area whiles the act had been banned.
Nana Apreko I, Debiahene of Asebu traditional area disputed the allegation saying the deal didn’t come with any money, but just a helping hand Moree is extending to support Ghana and KNUST in constructing a beach volleyball and football pitch as part of disciplines earmarked be hosted as part of All African games to be hosted in Kumase.
He added a letter was sent to the EPA to access the right place to be able to get the sand without any effect to the people. He added , a broader stakeholder consultations has also being held with authorities in the area.
As part of benefits due the people of Moree he stated
Scholarships will be awarded to students Akatachiwa and moree.
Again, Moree Senior High School will be adopted as a University practice, since Knust now has a brach at Moree, Bungalows will also be constructed for lecturers.
Furthermore, the clinic at the area will be upgraded and will include an Ultra modern laboratory to help take care of the health needs of the people.
In an KNUST won a bid to host the all African games to be hosted hosted in Kumase. Among the desciplne includes beach soccer and volleyball at Kumase, they pleaded with Okatakyie Amanfi who is a senior lecturer at KNUST, he decided to support them.
In a Regional security meeting organised by the central regional minister Kwamena Duncan with the people, they resolved that, the people of Moree agree for the sea sand to taken to Kumase whiles the regional minister adds his cover letter to Knust so that they can put on paper benefits people in the area will get.
